Devices
Topics in this section:
* An application user must have a user role with View/Modify
permission to the Devices feature to unprovision, add, import, edit, delete, or restore a device.
-
Device ID - Identifies the mobile logging device
-
Hardware Serial - The value assigned by the device's manufacturer to identify
an individual device.
-
Status - Indicates whether the device has been initialized to exchange
information with the web server
-
A Status of Provisioned indicates that the device has been initialized
and has communicated successfully with the server.
-
A Status of Unprovisioned indicates that the device has not been
initialized or has attempted to communicate with an invalid
Device ID, Organization ID, and/or
Provision Key.
-
A Status of Deleted indicates that an application user has deleted
the device from the listof active devices for the organization.
A deleted device cannot exchange data with the server and will not appear in reports.
-
Vehicle ID - Identifies the commercial motor vehicle with which the device was
most recently associated
-
A value of N/A indicates that the device has never been associated with a vehicle.
-
A value of (NVM) indicates that the device is in No Vehicle Mode - that is,
the device is no longer associated with any particular vehicle.
-
Software Version - Identifies the version of mobile application software that was
running on the device the last time it sent data to the server
-
A value of N/A indicates that the device has never communicated application data.
-
Software Update - Indicates the last date and
time that the device communicated that new mobile software had been installed
-
A value of N/A indicates that the device has never communicated with the server.
-
Last Connected - Indicates the last date and
time that the device exchanged any information with the server
-
A value of N/A indicates that the device has never communicated with the server.
Provisioning is the process by which a particular mobile logging device is registered for
the organization and permitted to exchange vehicle-specific information with the web server.
The process is initiated when the device is installed in a vehicle.
The user installing the device enters the Vehicle ID,
Device ID, Organization ID, and
Provision Key, which are then
communicated wirelessly to the web server.
If the server accepts these credentials, the Device ID and Vehicle ID are
added to the system (if they do not already exist) and an association is made between them.
A success response is returned to the device, and the device status is changed to
Provisioned.
If the server rejects these credentials, a failure response is returned to the device and
the status remains unchanged.
Organizations may optionally add or import Device IDs and Vehicle IDs
into the system prior to device installation.
This allows the organization to view and manage these resources even before devices are installed.
Clicking the Unprovision button removes the association between a Device ID
and a mobile logging device. The most common reason for unprovisioning would be to resolve
communication problems caused by two devices attempting to communicate using the same
Device ID. Unprovisioning allows the next device that attempts to communicate with
the conflicting Device ID to claim that Device ID as its own.
Devices may be deleted from the Devices list page (one or more devices at a time)
or from the Device Detail page (one device at a time).
To delete one or more devices from the Devices list:

web server.
